Parasite takes over, despite no Oscar host

Parasite 1

South Korean film Parasite was the big winner at this year’s Academy Awards.
The film, a dark comedy which looks at social class in Seoul, took home four awards on the night, including for the first time ever for an international film, Best Picture, Best International Picture, Best Director and Best Original Screenplay.
Other notables on the night included Joaquin Phoenix as Best Actor for his performance in Joker, while Renee Zellweger picked up her second Oscar as Best Actress, 16 years after bagging her Best Supporting Award for Cold Mountain.
Brad Pitt, as expected, walked away with his first acting Oscar, as Best Supporting Actor for his performance in QT’s Once Upon A Time…In Hollywood. He’d previously won as a producer of 2014’s 12 Years A Slave. Meanwhile Hollywood favourite Laura Dern surpassed her parents’ achievements by winning Best Supporting Actress for her memorable role in Marriage Story. Here dad Bruce Dern, and mother Diane Ladd, had been nominated for two and three Oscars respectively.
Other winners on the night included 1917, which won Best Visual Effects, Best Sound Mixing, and Best Cinematography for Roger Deakins, while Ford Vs Ferrari (known as Le Mans ’66 here) won two – Best Sound Editing and Best Film Editing.
Joker also bagged best Original Score, while Once Upon A Time…In Hollywood took a second for Best Production Design.
Toy Story 4 followed in its franchise’s tradition by bagging Best Animated Feature, while Taika Waititi nabbed the Best Adapted Screenplay for World War 2 comedy Jojo Rabbit.
Elton John and Bernie Taupin, after a working relationship of more than 53 years, also took home a shared Oscar for Best Original Song for (I’m Gonna) Love Me Again, which featured in the Elton biopic Rocketman.
