Alita: Battle Angel ascends to top of US Chart
Alita: Battle Angel, directed by Robert Rodriguez and written by James Cameron, rose to the top of the US Box Office on debut.
The sci-fi and manga crossover took $27.8m on its debut week, despite polarised opinions, knocking Lego Movie 2’s block off, and into second.
Third spot went to another new entry just in time for Valentine’s Day with Isn’t It Romantic, starring Rebel Wilson and Liam Hemsworth, which took $14.2m, while fourth spot went to another female driven movie with Taraji P Henson’s What Men Want.
Sixth place went to Cold Pursuit, recently mired in controversy thanks to lead Liam Neeson, while seventh and eighth went to chart regulars The Upside, the reboot starring Bryan Cranston and Kevin Hart, and M Night Shyamalan’s thriller Glass.
Rounding out the top ten are Taylor Schilling’s The Prodigy and the acclaimed Green Book, starring Viggo Mortensen and Mahershala Ali.
