Aquaman sinks rivals in US Box Office debut
DC superhero Aquaman comfortably sailed past his rivals, to top the US Box Office on its opening weekend.
The blockbuster, starring Jason Momoa and Amber Heard, shot straight to the top of the chart with $67.4m, holding fellow new entry Mary Poppins Returns in the runner’s up spot with only $23.5m.
Third spot also went to a new entry, with Transformers spin off, Bumblebee, flying straight into third place with $21.6m, which left last week’s incumbent, Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse, falling to fourth.
Elsewhere gristled legend Clint Eastwood slumped to fifth, with Dr Seuss’ The Grinch finally slipping down the pecking order to sixth, having taken in excess of $250m.
Jennifer Lopez could only muster seventh place with new entry Second Act, while Disney’s Ralph Breaks The Internet continued to pick up points and indeed ticket sales, moving up to $162m in its four weeks.
Steve Carell’s doll drama Welcome To Marwen debuted in ninth place, with the regal Mary Queen Of Scots, starring Margot Robbie and Saoirse Ronan, completing the top ten.
