Captain Marvel soars to top of the UK Box Office
Marvel’s latest superhero adventure, Captain Marvel, soared to the top of the UK Box Office in its debut week.
The movie, which stars Brie Larson and a digitally de-aged Samuel L Jackson, bagged a whopping £12.7m domestically and $455m worldwide.
As a result, it body-slammed its closest rival, Stephen Merchant’s wrestling comedy-drama Fighting With My Family into the runner up position, with The LEGO Movie 2 tumbling into third.
Mark Wahlberg and Rose Byrne comedy drama Instant Family settled in fourth, with fan favourite animation How To Train Your Dragon, which has so far taken £18m domestically, drifting to fifth.
Oscar winner Green Park dropped down a gear to sixth, while Keira Knightley WW2 drama The Aftermath slumping to seventh.
Elsewhere Joe Cornish’s Arthurian The Kid Who Would Be King holds firm in eighth, The Bolshoi Ballet’s 18/19 Sleeping Beauty Event Cinema event in ninth, and then CGI epic Alita: Battle Angel completing the top ten.
Fellow new entry, the Spanish Everybody Knows, starring Javier Bardem and Penelope Cruz, opens in 13th.
