Everything is awesome as Lego tops US
The Lego Movie 2 built a commanding lead over its rivals, after debuting with $34.4m.
The sequel to the chart topping animation of 2015, which features the voice of Chris Pratt and Elizabeth Banks, led the charge, with fellow new entries What Men Want, starring Taraji P Henson, and Cold Pursuit following in second and third with $19m and $10m respectively, despite Liam Neeson’s best efforts to grab the headlines. Indeed Cold Pursuit proved to be Neeson’s worst outing in a lead role in a decade.
The Upside continued its positive surge, in fourth, while Glass slipped to fifth.
Another debut saw horror Prodigy slash its way into sixth with $6m, with awards’ nominee Green Book, starring Mahershala Ali and Viggo Mortensen, in seventh.
Elsewhere DC water smash Aquaman, now totalling $328m domestically, acclaimed animation Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse and action title Miss Bala complete the top ten.
