Ruthless killer John Wick tackled the hordes and came out victorious in its opening week at the UK Box Office.

The martial arts thriller, starring Keanu Reeves, took a high-kicking £3.5m on debut, socking it to its rivals, including last week’s number one, Pokemon Detective Pikachu.

Avengers: Endgame slipped down to third, despite racking up the numbers (£83.9m so far domestically), followed by Dirty Rotten Scoundrels revamp The Hustle, starring Anne Hathaway and Rebel Wilson.

Fifth place went to newcomer Paw Patrol: Mighty Pups, which opened with £521k, with Seth Rogen and Charlize Theron rom-com Long Shot down to sixth.

Elsewhere Tim Burton’s Dumbo continued to wow the crowds in seventh, having amassed £24.8m, while Aretha Franklin doc Amazing Grace holds it note in eighth.

Author bio Tolkien, starring Nicholas Hoult, dips to nine, while horror The Curse Of La Llorona creeps its way out of the chart to ten.

New entry Breakthrough, a biography starring Topher Grace, opened in 15th.
