Last Christmas lights up UK Box Office
Last Christmas, starring Emilia Clarke and Henry Golding, brought some festive cheer to UK audiences to debut at number one.
The festive rom com wiped the smile off Joker’s face to top the bill with an opening of £2.6m.
The George Michael-inspired film proved Too Funky for fellow newcomer, racing drama Le Mans ’66, starring Christian Bale and Matt Damon, which came in as runner up with £2m.
Former incumbent Joker, featuring an acclaimed performance from Joaquin Phoenix, went into a spiral of decline in third, despite topping $1 billion globally, while Angelina Jolie’s Maleficent sequel fell from grace to fourth.
The Addams Family dipped to fifth, with The Good Liar, starring Ian McKellen and Helen Mirren, in sixth.
Elsewhere animation Abominable slides to seventh, with WWII epic Midway crashing to eighth.
Shaun The Sheep comedy Farmageddon continued to impress in ninth, with Terminator: Dark Fate unlikely to be back in tenth.
Aeronauts saw a steep deflation in terms of its box office draw, with the balloon adventure down in 12th.
