Michael Myers continued to hold US audiences in his grasp as Halloween Kills took the US Crown.

The sequel, starring Jamie Lee Curtis, took a whopping $49.4m on debut as the US prepares itself for the autumnal festival, knocking Bond off his perch and into second place.

Tom Hardy’s Venom 2 slithered down to third, having amassed a considerable $168m, with family spooky animation The Addams Family down to fourth.

New entry The Last Duel, directed by Ridley Scott and starring Jodie Comer, Ben Affleck and Matt Damon, opened in fifth with $4,759k, with Marvel’s Shang-Chi down to sixth, and Ryan Reynold’s Free Guy in seventh.

Icelandic horror Lamb gambolled to eighth, with newbie romance Most Eligible Batchelor opening in ninth and chiller Candyman completing the top ten.
