Latest release leaves UK audiences’ Spidey-senses tingling
The second official outing for Tom Holland as Spidey saw the movie swing straight to the top of the UK chart.
Spider-Man Far From Home, which also stars Jake Gyllenhaal and Samuel L Jackson, took £14.1m domestically, almost three times that of former incumbent, Toy Story 4.
That said, the Tom Hanks and Tim Allen animation still managed to bag £5.5m, taking its overall tally up to £36m in the UK.
Elsewhere, Danny Boyle’s Beatles’ tribute Yesterday slipped to third, followed by a slew of new entries in the next three positions, with Westlife’s The Twenty Tour in fourth, Florence Pugh horror Midsommar in fifth, and animation The Queen’s Corgi in sixth.
That left Aladdin clutching for the magic in seventh, and Secret Cinema’s Casino Royale in eighth.
Luc Besson’s latest female action hero vehicle, Anna, opened in ninth with just £198k, with Elton John biopic Rocketman completing the top ten.
