Mary Poppins Returns bags UK top spot once more
Supernanny Mary Poppins continued to cast a spell over UK audiences to secure the top spot in the UK Chart for a second week.
The P L Travers’ inspired tale, which stars Emily Blunt in the lead role, took another £7.4m over the Christmas period to take its domestic tally to £23.2m in two weeks.
Newcomer Bumblebee, a spinoff of the Transformers franchise, opened in second spot with £5.1m, while former frontrunner Aquaman sank to third, having amassed £14.3m in its three weeks, with experts predicting a final total of $900m globally.
Fourth place went to another new entry, with comedy duo Will Ferrell and John C Reilly reteaming for Holmes And Watson, after previous collaborations Talladega Nights and Step Brothers.
Elsewhere Disney’s Ralph Breaks The Internet crashed to fifth, with animation Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse slipping to sixth.
Universal’s The Grinch continued to have an uplifting festive period in seventh, taking its tally to £26.6m, while Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody continued to ‘Breakthru’ to audiences having amassed a remarkable £47m in its 10 weeks.
Rounding out the top ten are J K Rowling’s Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes Of Grindelwald and Rocky reboot Creed II.
