Religious horror best of the bunch in US, bar Nun
The Nun, the latest instalment in the Conjuring franchise, ascended to the top of the US Box Office in its opening week.
The creepy religious horror, starring Taissa Farmiga, took $53.5m on release, the second largest September opening in box office history.
That meant that box office phenomenon Crazy Rich Asians, starring Constance Wu and Henry Golding, saw their assets drop, after taking $13.6m and taking their overall domestic tally to $136.2m.
Another new entry saw Peppermint, Jennifer Garner’s vengeance-fuelled mom taking on the crims, in third place having bagged $13.2m on debut, while Jason Statham’s giant shark, The Meg, continued to submerge, now down in fourth spot.
Elsewhere John Cho was still Searching for his daughter in fifth, with Tom Cruise freefalling to sixth with the latest Mission: Impossible – Fallout.
Christopher Robin and his threadbare friends were down to seventh, with Operation Finale, starring Sir Ben Kingsley and Oscar Isaac,, Spike Lee’s BlackKklansman and prehistoric tale Alpha completing the top ten.
