Rey of sunshine as Star Wars remains top in US
Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker held on to its crown to remain top of the US box office in its second week.
The final saga in the story, directed by JJ Abrams, took a further $72m to take its tally to $175m, and hold off the challenge of Dwayne Johnson and co with Jumanji: The Next Level in second.
Third spot went to new entry Little Women, Greta Gerwig’s adaptation of the novel, starring Saoirse Ronan and Florence Pugh, with animated musical sequel Frozen II slipping to fourth.
Will Smith animation Spies In Disguise opens in fifth with $13.2m, with comedy murder mystery Knives Out, starring Daniel Craig, down to sixth.
Acclaimed drama Uncut Gems, starring Adam Sandler as a gambling jeweller, opens in seventh with $9.5m, with the underwhelming Cats, Charlize Theron drama Bombshell and Clint Eastwood’s latest Richard Jewell completing the top ten.
