Rivals go up in flames, as Dragon soars to the top
It was a breath of fresh air, as newcomer How To Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World topped the UK Chart.
The third and final instalment in the series took £5.3m on debut, comfortably ahead of the runner up – another newbie in the form of awards’ hopeful Green Book.
The Viggo Mortensen – Mahershala Ali odd couple drama entered in second spot, pushing last week’s incumbent, Glass, down to third.
Fellow newcomer the thriller Escape Room opened in fourth, with quarrelling queens Mary Queen Of Scots (and Elizabeth I) down to fifth.
Christian Bale’s portrayal of Dick Cheney in Vice saw him sat in sixth, with supernanny Mary Poppins in seventh, having taken £42m domestically so far.
Elsewhere another awards hopeful, Can You Ever Forgive Me?, starring Melissa McCarthy and Richard E Grant, opened in eighth, with legendary comedy double act Stan & Ollie, played by Steve Coogan and John C Reilly, in ninth.
Awards’ frontrunner The Favourite, with Olivia Colman, completes the top ten.
