Shazam! powers to the top of the UK Chart

DC’s latest superhero entry, the family friendly Shazam! shot straight to the top of the UK Box Office on its debut.

The film, which stars Zachary Levi and Mark Strong, took £4m in its opening week, trampling all over previous incumbent Dumbo, which has now take £12m in two weeks.

Third place went to another new entry in the form of Stephen King remake, Pet Sematary, starring Jason Clarke, John Lithgow and a very fearsome puddy, while

Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel continued to impress, having surpassed $1 billion globally this week.

Mid table saw the ageless Peppa Pig and her Festival Of Fun winning over youngsters in fifth, while Jordan Peele’s tonally different Us stumbled to sixth.

Elsewhere seventh went to new animation Missing Link, featuring Hugh Jackman, which took £644k on opening week, with coral choristers Fisherman’s Friends wound up in eighth.

Another new entry saw Jake Gyllenhaal, Joaquin Phoenix and John C Reilly collaboration The Sisters Brothers debut in ninth, with Taraji P Henson’s What Men Want completing the top ten.

Elsewhere football movie The Keeper, based on Bert Trautmann, opened in 12th.
