Star Wars uses its force to suppress US challengers
JJ Abrams’ Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker continued to vanquish all before it, topping the US chart once again.
The latest Star Wars film bagged a further $33.7m to take its domestic tally to a whopping $450m – 2019’s third largest release after Avengers: Endgame and The Lion King.
Action adventure sequel Jumanji: The Next Level remained in second, with Little Women, starring Saoirse Ronan and Florence Pugh.
New entry The Grudge, a reboot of the 2004 Sarah Michelle Gellar movie, which was itself a reboot of the 2002 Japanese classic, debuted in fourth with $11.3m.
Musical sequel Frozen II slid down to fifth, with fellow animation Spies In Disguise, starring Will Smith, in sixth.
Elsewhere Daniel Craig whodunit Knives Out fell to seventh, with acclaimed dramas Uncut Gems, starring Adam Sandler, and Bombshell, starring Charlize Theron, and less acclaimed musical Cats, starring Idris Elba, completing the top ten.
